I still find it quite odd to note that to date we’ve still not seen a decent remake of the seminal (if you’re me) Durell classic Harrier Attack. To be truthful, it’s a bit of a mystery as to why - the original game was hardly a complex beast and yet no, there’s still scant in the way of loving for the game.
You may be aware that Mike Richardson himself has also created his own sequel, to my mind it turned out a rather overcomplicated affair and as can so often be the way drifted far too much away from what made the original great. Although I gather that perhaps Mikes passion and mine are aligned slightly differently - I’m much more at home with more arcadey affairs whereas Mike went more for the arcade come simulator template - something that my love for simplicity was never going to sit easy with.
The official Harrier Attack II is an interesting experiment on the theme none the less, more an extension of where the likes of Turbo Esprit were heading than the early days of gaming. Perhaps you should nip on over and at least try the demo and show one of my childhood coding heroes some support.
I digress greatly so back to the subject in hand. Harrier Attack: The Second Sortie (I’ve always loved that word) is Dragon’s attempt at a take on the Harrier Attack legacy. It’s very early days however there’s a small technical demo on the forum for you to try. So far, it remains faithful-ish to the original but Dragon is looking for idea’s on how to expand the game.
I’m sure you fine readers could possibly drop a few comments and hints and feedback for the chap. Chin up, saddle up and umm something.
